The area around Monte San Giorgio stands out for a number of different reasons. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage site for almost twenty years, it has fossils from over 240 million years ago, it plays a key part in world road cycling championships which have seen wins from Cadel Evans and Fabian Cancellara, and it is home to Switzerland’s first fully automatic tourist cableway. Serpiano cableway facilitates access to the wonderful hiking trails 600 m above the village of Brusino Arsizio, on Lake Lugano. Travel from the lake to the mountain in just a few minutes, with departures every half an hour from Wednesday to Sunday, April to October.
